Anime Update Summer & Fall 2010

It’s been a while since I have made a post about what anime shows I’m watching. Since I have nothing better to do right now I figured I should get it out of the way now. This season has been a pretty empty one in terms of watching new anime coming out in Japan. Not a whole lot kept my interest and even though other titles weren’t bad I just didn’t have the time or willpower to continue them. I’m hoping there are a few more series that will interest me for the Fall season.

Summer Season

High School Of The Dead

I started this series just because of all the talk about it. I have never been a zombie fan but this anime show has made me change my mind. I’m not even sure why I like it, with all the panty shots and naked girls you would think I would hate it. The action is fun though and the fact that the girls don’t just sit there and cry helps. Seeing girls actually kick ass and beat the shit out of the zombies is awesome. Even the plot is not so bad and it makes you wonder how they will get out of their situation. I also hope they all survive right now. The only thing I could do without is the stupid movements of the boobs.

Episode 8 was ridicules because of the scene when Takashi used Rei’s boobs as a stand and shot at the zombies having Saeko dodge the bullet between her legs and boobs. The whole boobs moving around the bullet would have made my drink come out of my nose if I had been drinking right then. (Thank God I wasn’t). The next episode made up for that fanservice stuff when you got to learn more about Saeko’s evil side.

This has probably been one of the more enjoyable series I have watched this season.

Cynical Orange

The most beautiful face, the perfect body, and a sincere personality… that’s what Hwang Hyemin has. Naturally, she’s the center of everyone’s attention. Every boy in her school loves her, while every girl hates her out of their jealousy. Every single day, she has to endure tortures and hardships from the girls. There is nothing more satisfying than getting them back. Well, except for one problem: her secret crush, JongYon. Because of him, she has to hide her cynical and dark side and put an innocent face on daily. For him, she has to endure all the jealousy and suffering.  Then one day, she found out that he dislikes her anyways!! WHAT?!? That’s it! No more nice girl! And her first victim of rage is a playboy she just met, MaHa. -MangaFox

I would have to give this manhwa a pretty high rating. I enjoyed all it all the way to the end. Something about Korean manhwa differs so much from Japanese manga though. Some people may not like it but I happen to really be interested. They have a drier sense of humor and they really like sad stories. Anyway, this story has everything you could want from a shoujo type of manhwa. Can you even call it shoujo if it is Korean? I’m not really sure, but you get the idea.

Summer Season 2010

I put this off for a while because it took some time to be able to watch the ones I wanted to try. Sadly, this season is not very exciting to me. None of the titles are making me antsy in my chair waiting for the next release. I have found a few to watch that I can enjoy though. I hope a few of them can keep me interested. Still, this is very short, including my opinions on them so far.

Gakuen Mokushiroku: High School of the Dead

The first show I watched for the summer season. This one had me with mixed feelings. I have never really been much of a zombie fan but this series might change that. At the same time I really don’t like most of the characters but I’m hoping they grow. The biggest problem with it, as I’m sure most girls will say, is all the fan service with the huge boobs and panty shots. I’m actually not as bothered by this as some people though. It got a little better in the third episode anyway. So far the zombie thing in the series is what has me hooked though. I’m really curious to find out how they get out of this. I’m not going to be surprised if we don’t get a good ending because it is based on a manga series that has been on hiatus for a long time. Still, I will probably be finishing this show.
