Evangelion 1.0

// November 16th, 2009 // 4 Comments » // AniManga, Anime, Fandom, Reviews

I finally got around to watching the first Evangelion Rebuild movie. I have always been a big fan of NGE so I was excited to learn about the rebuilds.

I was not let down at all. Even though the funny stuff was taken out so they could focus on the battles and some of the voices are no longer than same, I still loved it. The way they redid a lot of the battles was awesome but I would have to say the last battle was my favorite.

I really like the way they did the angel, it was more than just a lame looking cube. xD Not only did the angles and Eva look a lot more cool but the emotional scenes with Shinji were much better. It made you really feel for him instead of just think he is a cry baby.

Things that happened to Shinji seemed a lot more painful than they were before, especially in the last battle. I was on the edge of my seat even though I already know what is going to happen from watching the series a number of times.

If you are a true NGE fan then you don’t want to miss this. However, if this series wasn’t for you then you might not care for it.

I have high hopes for the rest of the rebuilds and I can’t wait to see what new ending they have in store for us.

Anime Hollywood

Remember my post about Hollywood going anime? Well, I have done some more research on it now that some time has passed and I have a little more information to share.

First, the new Transformers movie was awesome and is a must see if you liked the first one!

I saw the commercial for Avatar (although it isn’t really anime I thought it should be mentioned), it looked interesting but I know nothing about the series. I’m thinking, perhaps I should watch it before I see the movie… or maybe not.  xD

Bad news, or good news… you can take it either way but the movie for Akira has been canceled. They didn’t give any specific reasons why but there is a lot of speculation for the budget stuff, the strike, and the recent bomb of Watchmen… Anyway, it is put off as dead as a doornail.

Biggest one yet, Blood: The Last Vampire has been made into a live action movie. So far it has only aired in Japan but it will come to air in the US on July 10th. I will go see this since it will be done like the animated movie, having a lot of English in it. I’m use to subtitles so it isn’t a problem for me. The movie will be called Last Blood. I read a little about it and I think it will be fun but they did add a lot to it that makes me cringe, like her fighting along a new friend and such…

Ninja Assassin isn’t an anime movie but worth the mention as well since famous k-pop singer, Rain will be the star. I’m excited to see this movie which, hopefully, will come out on November  25th. I say hopefully because they have been know to change the date before.

I still need to see Dragon Ball but yeah… not that excited about it since I heard so many bad things. X_X

Neon Genesis Evangelion is still an ongoing project but there hasn’t been any new news since the last time I wrote about it… such a slow moving project. I just hope that means it will be really good. xD

Cowboy Bebop is still an ongoing project as well. They are really serious about it so everyone is a little more relaxed knowing it won’t be botched up like Dragon Ball was.

Ghost in a Shell is sometime in 2011 if that project doesn’t get canceled.

Ninja Scroll probably won’t be done since it was a project that was to be done by the same people who were going to go Akira. It hasn’t had any ‘canceled’ yet but it also hasn’t had in ‘go a heads’. They say they want to wait and see how Ninja Assassin does first.

Word has finally hit the Internets that Warner Bros. is (so far) going ahead with a Death Note live-action flick made in Hollywood– and no, they haven’t announced any casting. – http://www.animevice.com

Full Metal Panic is still in the works as well but… Wah!! Not Zac Effron as Sagura!! NNOOO! *cries in a corner*

While some people complain about anime going mainstream I’m not that scared of it. Sure, it will be annoying with more people thinking they know what anime is all about just because they watch it on cartoon network or saw the hollywood production but at least this way we have a chance of getting anime to be cheaper, though, a lot of it already has. I know that I bought the Fruits Basket series one DVD at a time and each of them cost as much as the boxset does now. X_X

Anyway, I’m not going to give my opinion on these matter anymore than I have.

Hollywood + Anime = ?!

// March 30th, 2009 // 11 Comments » // AniManga, Anime, Fandom, Informative, Movies, Rants, Reviews

I decided that the combined website I was planning to do with my sister will not ever be complete. There are good reasons for this but the biggest one of all is the fact that I can’t ever get my sister to do something even when she said she wanted to. Sigh. LOL

So, I’m going to start posting some of the rants on my personal blog here that I had planned for Rantisim.

Hollywood is going anime! This is exciting and scary at the same time. How will all these anime titles handle being made into live action movies for the main stream masses? We won’t truly know until a good number of planned movies actually make it to the big screen.

My personal opinion on this matter is, go for it Hollywood, just don’t botch it up too bad. I would love to see my favorite shows come to life with real people. I’m not going to be hoping for them to be exactly the same though. If they can’t even make movies from books right I don’t have that much hope for anime. It is a plus that a lot of these directors and such happen to be fans, themselves, of the series so they are doing their best to keep them to the original works. I’m just going to try and like them for what they are in the long run.

So far there has been Speed Racer, a movie I have yet to see even though it has one of my favorite Korean Artists in it, and Transformers, which turned out to be a lot more fun to watch than I expected.

But there is a list of anime titles that are in the making of becoming a live action movie such as…

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Akira
Ghost in a Shell
Dragon Ball
Ninja Scroll

This list just keeps growing. I remember when it was just Neon Genesis Evangelion. Sadly, that one is taking the longest to get any work done.

The Dragon Ball movie is coming out pretty soon. I’m not a huge Dragon Ball fan but I think I will have to see it, just because. I’m a little bit afraid of the guy they got to play Goku because I thought his acting was weak so far, but it might have just been the movie I saw him in that wasn’t good. I can’t decide if I will watch this one in theatre or wait for it to come out to rent. I guess it depends on my mood and what kind of time I have.

Fox (film producer Erwin Stoff (The Matrix, A Scanner Darkly)) is picking up the Cowboy Bebop movies, and it is rumored that Keanu Reeves is going to play Spike, especially since they said he will be getting a lead role. I’m iffy on that, I guess the choice could be a whole lot worse though. I just hope he doesn’t make Spike boring, cause that would be a real shame. A lot of people see Spike as being unemotional, but I see him as being a bit of a goof. Is that strange of me?

The good thing is that they intend to remain faithful to the original as much as possible. They will even be working with some of the original creators such as Sunrise President Kenji Uchida, and original Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe.  For more information about it, check out Anime News Network.

Akira is another one that is coming to the big screen pretty soon. It is aiming to have it’s first release by the summer of 2009. Warner Bros has decided to split this movie up into two separate ones and will have it follow the manga more than the original anime movie. And yes, it is going to be done by the production company owned by Leonardo Dicaprio. Who would have thought he was an otaku? heh.

Besides, Akira, it is said he has gotten the rights to making a live action for Ninja Scroll. So far there is not more to be said about it. I think we should see how Ninja Assassin does before they try this ultra gory anime.

Ghost in a Shell is going to be taken on by Steven Speilberg, being a fan of the anime,  and dreamworks. Most complaints is the fear of it being dumbed down for the masses, but that is to be expected. I fear that a lot more for Neon Genesis Evangelion.

And last, but not least, the Neon Genesis Evangelion movie. This live action movie has been talked about since 2004 and was originally slated to be out by 2007, but it is now unknown as to when it will ever come out. However, it is still being worked on and has even started the very basics of production. Unfortunalty they have been keeping  secret about a lot of it, such as the director in choice and so on so forth. Weta Workshop will be working on the CG for this movie, which is a good sign. From what I can see, the sketches seem promising. It is good that they are keeping them with a more organic feel than a robotic one, since the Evas or more monsters than machine. To keep up with the most recent info on this production of this movie, it is best to check out Live Action Evangelion.

So what do you think? Scared? Excited? Both?  Also, what would you like to see next on this list?
